Bui Family!

It had been a little over a year since I saw the Bui family. The last time was an INSANE in home newborn session with little Logan a couple Octobers ago... here a few favs from that.

I had a last minute cancellation in February and I am SO happy that they snatched up the spot :) Mary is a very cool/creative person, so I had NO trouble talking her into this awesome downtown location. I knew the vibrant colors would be the perfect backdrop to HAVE SOME FUN!

It was just a couple days after this session that *my* family started what would be a very weird month. Our four year old was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, a beloved/close family member died suddenly, and my husband suffered kidney damage due to a blood clot. Between my son and husband we were in the hospital for 2 weeks- everyone was in pain, traumatized, and discombobulated (either I spelled that right or auto correct doesn't know what the F#%K I just wrote hahah!).

I had no choice but to care for our son on my own (but I did have lots of help from family, THANK YOU!) while my husband was in the hospital for 5 days, testing his blood sugar and giving insulin shots BY MYSELF TO A FOUR YEAR OLD. Please imagine the chaos haha! My mother in law was coming over one morning to help me, and she came in while I was trying to give my son his morning insulin (which is 2 shots). He was fighting me HARD. I am so patient, everyone knows this about me- but it was a moment where I just. freaking. lost. it. He HAS to have this medicine and it's a time sensitive situation... he's screaming, I can't get a good enough grip on him to give him a shot without hurting him and I just started SCREAMING at him. HOLD STILL!!!!!!!! MOMMY HAS TO DO THIS!!!! It was one of those moments where it would be ideal for no one else to witness it haha! But of course I look up and there is my mother in law- thank god because then we were able to do it together and get it done.

Through this, ALL OF MY CLIENTS were so understanding and supportive of us. It makes me emotional thinking about how lucky I am to have such amazing people in my life.

First and foremost, without everyone I wouldn't even be able to do what I do. My business is 99% referral based, so it's my clients that give me the opportunity to live my dream.

When I was a little kid people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and it was usually a toss up between a marine biologist (dolphins, duh!), a "baby" doctor (until I realized that vaginas were involved haha!), OR a photographer. I know I won't do this forever, but I get to say that I DID IT.

Mary waited an entire month to get these pictures back. During that month, anytime I could I would sneak away to be on the computer to edit. An hour at a time.. 30 minutes. It was during these minutes and hours that I felt normal, excited, and peaceful. I would smile for no reason and just feel the weight lifting.

These photos got me through some hard, dark times. This is what my happiness looks like.
