Colton is 1! A Watermelon Cake Smash

So....

I must admit...

The majority of *my* awesome ideas for photoshoots are not mine, but my clients. THANK YOU CLIENTS FOR BEING CREATIVE AS WELL AS BADASS!

When Jamie said she wanted to do a lifestyle shoot for her son's 1st birthday I was like, "yay!" When she then suggested doing a watermelon smash instead of a cake smash I was like, "Fu&%$#*ing H@% Y&%!!!!!!"

I think you can decode my exclamation ;)

Here are a few images to wet your whistle (including the family's own "happy dance"), before we get into the rest.

Lifestyle sessions are a time capsule for your family.

What did your nursery look like? What milestones was your baby experiencing? What pets did you have? All these things will become the most cherished and important details as you reminisce in the years to come :)

Grandma was in town, and even though she didn't want to be in the pictures, I couldn't help but sneak in a couple. Plus WHO DOESN'T LOVE CRYING BABIES?!

Teething. EVERYTHING in the mouth AT ALL TIMES haha!

Before I come over, I talk with the family about what specific things we should photograph- what toys the baby loves, what the family likes to do together, etc. One of the things Colton had been doing was crawling out the doggy door- and we all LOVE that shot!

This watermelon idea was SO. CUTE. I can't say it enough!

Another part of an in home "cake smash" session that I love is the end... when we get to document the hosing down of your child haha! At a previous session like this, we went in the backyard with the hose and sprayed the baby off :) The dog was licking the frosting off the baby from head to toe and I felt like my photographic dreams were coming true!

For Colton's session, it was a great opportunity to show off this AMAZING kitchen reno- I'm not sure if I should call them Zack and Jami Gaines or Chip and Joanna Manthey haha! Lots of hard work went into this space and I am so happy for them to have this memory :)

So there it is! Thank you, thank you Jami & Zack for being awesome and collaborating with me to create such an amazing session! I hope you cherish these memories for years to come!
